Every week, we ask a real estate professional for their Short List, a collection of tips and recommendations on an essential topic in real estate. This week, we talked with Rett Harmon, the CEO and co-founder of Century 21 Novus Realty, for his tips on how agents can incorporate technology into their real estate business.

8. Technology Does Not Have to be Complicated – High quality digital camera are everywhere. Take advantage of this and update your photo at a minimum of every 12 months. We all constantly change. It is important that your clients or prospective clients recognise you when they see you In person. The photo that you love of yourself from a decade ago is not the person you are today. Be proud of your experience.

7. Start with Complete Profiles on the Platforms that Consumers Frequent – The main sites that your listings appear need your profile presence too. Keep in mind an incomplete profile especially one without your photo makes you look lazy as a professional. Most all profiles on many of these sites are free. Take advantage.

6. Rethink Your Social Media Strategies – Is your Face Book business page really getting you business? If so is it enough to continue to keep it up? Only you can answer this honestly. I’m not saying to give up something that you are truly pasionate about but there reaches a point that it has to make sense to continue.

5. Always Remember, People Do Not Want to be “Sold” on Social Media – Keep this in mind when you make posts. Earn business because you demonstrate you are the expert not because your purpose is to demonstrate your ability to post everyone send you their referrals of anyone that they know that may be buying or selling. It’s perfectly appropriate to ask for referrals, be aware of your approach.

4. Ask Your Clients What Sources or Apps They are Using to Gather Their Real Estate Knowledge – Do this during your initial consultation with them. It will give you much needed insight on your client and is a great opprotunity to offer up your trusted sites and apps that offer better accuracy. This will save you and your clients lots of time.

3. Connect with as Many Real Estate Professionals as Possible in as Many Areas as Possible – Real estate is Hyper Local. Referral opportunities are lost too often. The best way to get referrals is to give referrals. Say you are a residential only agent, the next time a past client asks you for your commercial real estate assistance say sure I can help you. Then reach out to your commercial go to person. If you don’t have a go to person ask the professionals that you already know and respect.

2. Order Branded Thank You Cards in Bulk – Hand write sincere notes of encouragement and gratitude and mail them often. This is not high tech but highly effective and respected too often forgotten business practice.

1. Attend Georgia Realtors and NAR Conferences Along with RETSO Other Conference Opportunities – Some of the best ideas of ways to utilize and learn about relevant real estate technologies is to learn from the pros that use them on a daily basis. Conferences are excellent opportunities to do this and build your Referal networks.
