Five great Atlanta neighborhoods for first-time homebuyers

Last year, more than 2 million new or existing homes were purchased by first-time homebuyers. In fact, the number of homes purchased by first-time buyers increased nearly 7 percent from the same time in 2016, making 2017 the best for the first-time homebuyer market since 2006.

Owners.com highlighted five neighborhoods throughout Atlanta that would be ideal for first-time buyers.

West End

This historic neighborhood is becoming an popular market due to how close it is to the new BeltLine Trail and its development. According to Owners.com, this area is filled with craftsman bungalows and Queen Anne Victorian homes, and has cultural landmarks including The Wren’s Nest and the Hammonds House Museum.

Decatur

A culmination of the pleasant downtown Decatur Square and greater unincorporated DeKalb county, this area is filled with ranches, cottages, apartments and townhouses. Owners.com mentions that residents are able to utilize the MARTA rail stations and bus routes, and nearby boutiques and restaurants like Brick Store Pub and Kimball House.

East Point

Located around Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, East Point has many abundant cottages and bungalows. Owners.com comments that the neighborhood offers ample parking and nearby public transportation, and access to downtown amenities like Thumbs Up Diner and Oz Pizza.

Smyrna

Outside of the Atlanta perimeter, Smyrna has an variety of different housing offerings including one-bedroom apartments in brand name complexes to large family homes in quiet culs-de-sac. In addition to the Cobb Community Transit buses that connect to MARTA, there are plenty of amenities nearby, including SunTrust Park.

Chamblee

Formally an industrialized area, Chamblee has an assortment of different housing options with many price ranges. Owners.com mentions that a MARTA rail line runs through the area, which makes downtown Atlanta a ride away. In addition, the neighborhood has many art and restaurant offerings that could appeal to first-time buyers.
