Agent Snapshot: Leah Robinson-Christian, Advisor and Associate Broker, Engel & Völkers Atlanta

What was your most interesting job before going into real estate? My most interesting job was a program coordinator for a domestic violence safe home in Globe, Arizona. I learned so many things, was able to help many survivors of domestic violence, and put programming in place to develop the skills clients needed to help with gaining employment, emotional stability, and parenting.

Where did you grow up? Metro Detroit, Michigan

Growing up, what did you want to be? I wanted to be a ballet dancer as a child.

What do you do to relax when you’re stressed? When I need to relax, I take a hot bubble bath with bath salts and a Nest candle.

If you could meet any well-known figure (living or not), who would it be and why? If I could meet a well-known figure, it would be either Misty Copeland or Barbra Streisand. I chose Misty Copeland because I’d love to have a dialogue with her about her struggle as a black, muscular dancer. I recall the struggle. I would also choose Barbra Streisand because growing up as a child, my mother used to LOVE this singer.

What is Atlanta’s best-kept secret? Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms

What do you love most about the industry? I love the ability to help so many people: buyers, sellers, and small business owners that help the entire home purchase process. From inspectors to painters, repairmen, designers…there are so many ways to be impactful.

How do you distinguish yourself from the crowd of agents? In a crowd of agents, I try to distinguish myself with my creativity, boldness, extreme professionalism, and exceptional contract and negotiation styles and practices. I am a woman of integrity and thus, I don’t look at others and compare, I look at myself and compare myself to meeting my high expectations.

What is the most difficult aspect of your job? One of the most difficult aspects of my job is balance. I really love what I do, so I can absorb myself so much and not give attention to others things or people in my life. Everything becomes, how can I build my business doing this or that and if it’s not building my business, I don’t have an interest in doing it.

What’s your best advice for generating new leads? The best advice I have is to talk to people, be genuine and honest, get their contact information, AND FOLLOW UP consistently.

What are you binge-watching/reading/listening to lately? Lately I have been watching Steven Furtick (Senior Pastor of Elevation Church in Charlotte) and Pose on Netflix. One of the writers is someone I went to school with in Interlochen, Michigan.

What’s your favorite meal in Atlanta? I love the Atlanta Breakfast Club. I love breakfast and their chicken and waffles are so good!!

Architecturally speaking, what is your favorite building in Atlanta? Okay, I have two that I cannot decide between. The High Museum and the Center for Civil and Human Rights. Wait, one more 1180 Peachtree St NW. Got to add a glass high-rise to the mix. Those are my top 3!

What’s the weirdest thing that’s ever happened to you on the job? Several years ago, I was a new agent in real estate and was contacted to list a 37-acre pasture in Fayette County. I was so excited as this property with home was valued around $1 million, which would be my first million-dollar listing. Well, when I went to the home and viewed the land, I was very excited as it was beautiful, however I has stunned by what I saw in the home AND the owner wanted to list it for $1.5 million. Because I wanted my name out there, I took the listing which had been listed with another agent previously. On picture day, no pictures could be taken in the basement as it had mold, none in the upstairs bedrooms because it was locked off and on the main level there was cat litter and poop all over the family room floors. The kitchen, dining room, and den were a MESS!!! The photographer and I took four hours at this small Williamsburg-style home, shuffling and moving furniture to hide things including the cat poop and how it ruined the hardwood floors. I felt bad as I knew if anyone would want to view the home, they would feel as though we had tricked them as the pictures looked AMAZING. When, of course, my listing expired unsold, the owner asked if she could purchase my pictures from me, which I shared I would sell with watermark and at a cost so exorbitant due to the time and GRIME of getting the pictures done.

What’s one thing people are surprised to learn about you? People are always surprised to learn that I have three children (one of whom is 15 years old) as people think I am much younger.

What is your favorite vacation spot and why? I’m not sure I have been to enough places to have a favorite vacation spot, but I LOVE Jamaica because the beaches are beautiful, the food is great, and the people are friendly. Now, if we are talking Georgia…I love the North Georgia Mountains. You can see multiple falls, go tubing or kayaking, and stay in the fabulous Lucille’s Mountain Top Inn. It’s a BEAUTIFUL bed and breakfast!

What is your favorite city after Atlanta? My favorite city…are we talking favorite city in metro Atlanta or in the United States? I’ll say that I really enjoy Ft. Lauderdale (beautiful beaches, laid back setting, shopping). If we were speaking outside of
Georgia…hmmm Sedona, Arizona is also up there in favorites. However, if I am sticking to Georgia or Metro Atlanta, my next favorite city is likely Tyrone, GA. Convenient access to the interstate, affordable home prices, land, easy access to shopping in PTC.

In 10 words or less, what is your advice for someone new to the industry? Find a mentor and absorb everything you can.

What’s your favorite real estate iPhone/Android app? Too many to name, but a very practical one is Genius Scan.

Who are your favorite people to follow on social media? I enjoy following the fine and talented Dr. Elvis Francois.
