monya-mumin-mason-turner-realty

Monya Mu’min is the managing broker of Mason Turner Realty in Gwinnett County.

What was your first job in the realty industry? Real estate salesperson.

Where did you grow up? Atlanta.

What do you do to relax when you’re stressed? When I am stressed, I relax by listening to music and playing games – dominoes, mah jongg, backgammon and solitaire.

Growing up, what did you want to be? I wanted to be an entertainer! I was always into the performing arts, and my vision was the trio of Janet Jackson, Whitney Houston and ME!

If you could have lunch with a well-known figure (living or not), who would it be and why? I would LOVE to have lunch with Herman Russell and his family. His story has been VERY inspirational to me, because he was set and determined from the beginning to accomplish! It would be amazing to hear his stories first hand!

Where is your favorite place to hang out? My favorite place to hang out is somewhere new! I enjoy discovering new eateries, venues and interesting people.

How do you distinguish yourself from the crowd of agents? By being a servant. Serving makes the difference. I care deeply and sincerely for those with whom I work. I value the trust they have placed in me to take care of them. I try my best to be a good steward with that trust.

What is the most difficult aspect of your job? Not being able to help. During the financial crisis of late, underwater clients were often in situations where I was unable to cast an available lifeline that would meet their needs. Having to share that with them was difficult.

Where do you go to network and meet new clients? Everywhere I go! EVERYBODY lives somewhere! I love doing what I do, and it is a natural part of my everyday life.

What has been your greatest accomplishment? Working with others to accomplish their goals. Whether it be clients, agents, companies or my own children, seeing other people move from a place of dream to reality is so exciting!

What was the last good movie you saw or book you read? “The Twelve Powers of Man” by Charles Fillmore.

What is your favorite restaurant? I prefer to eat at home (control what goes into the food!), but when I eat out, I prefer a restaurant that sells country cooking – especially if they have fresh collard greens on the menu!

Architecturally speaking, what is your favorite building in Atlanta? The Arrowhead House in Atlanta, which was built by Robert Miller Green. It has that Frank Lloyd Wright feel with its natural components and lines and built-in furniture. I just love houses built in that era!

Smartphone or paper? I use my smartphone for on the go. When I am relaxing and in a meditative mood, paper – it’s a my generation thing!

What is your favorite city after Atlanta? I think in the United States, San Diego holds a special place in my heart. Waking up to the smell of the ocean and hearing the sounds of the water and birds is starkly different than home. VERY relaxing.

In 10 words or less, what is your advice for someone new to the industry? Get out of the box (stay in the lines though)!

What’s your favorite real estate iPhone/Android app? I would have to say Karl’s Mortgage Calculator.

Who are your favorite people to follow on Twitter? My favorite people to follow on Twitter would be inspirational/motivational speakers – helps me to keep it movin’!
