The Federal Home Loan Bank of Atlanta (FHLBank Atlanta) made $60 million in grant funding available to help low- to moderate-income homebuyers and other qualifying buyers purchase or renovate homes.
Member banks of FHLBank Atlanta can apply to distribute the funding, which is up from the $55 million distributed last year, to eligible borrowers, who can use it for down payments, closing costs and home repairs.
“We are pleased to expand our support for homebuyers and homeowners this year, especially in light of challenges, including high home prices and recent natural disasters,” FHLBank Atlanta President and CEO Kirk Malmberg said in a press release. “These programs have been designed to assist both first-time and repeat homebuyers, low- and moderate-income families, members of public-service occupations and those in declared emergency areas.”
The funding is being distributed through two programs: the 2025 Affordable Housing Program’s Homeownership Set-aside Program, which will get $40 million, and the Workforce Housing Plus+ Program, which will get $20 million.
Member financial institutions can access up to $750,000 from the Homeownership Set-aside Program, which provides assistance to first-time homebuyers; employed or retired first responders, educators, health care workers, veterans and surviving spouses; and residents of major disaster declaration areas.
Members can also access up to $500,000 from the Workforce Housing Plus+ Program, which helps borrowers with incomes between 80.01% and 120% of the area median income.
Homes must be the primary residence of each grant recipient and located in FHLBank Atlanta’s district, which includes Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia and Washington, D.C.
