The Pendergrast Farm luxury conservation community has hired a full-time farmer to run the new Decatur development’s one-acre working farm.

The farmer, Vincent McKoy, specializes in sustainable agriculture and is a graduate of the HABESHA Works Program. He has over five years of professional experience, including time at Eco-Paradigm, an Atlanta-based farm-services company.

“I’m honored to be a part of Pendergrast Farm,” McKoy said in a press release. “This community represents everything I believe in — sustainable living, fresh food and fostering a connection with the land. I can’t wait to share my knowledge with residents and create a space where everyone can learn, grow and enjoy the bounty of nature.”

A project of Healthy House of Georgia, Pendergrast Farm offers 20 energy-efficient homes priced from $1.2 million. All homes are solar-panel ready and wired for EV charging stations. The community is currently 80% sold.

McKoy plans to grow a variety of seasonal vegetables, fruits and herbs and develop a community supported agriculture (CSA) program, to which residents and the surrounding community can subscribe for boxes of produce grown on the farm. He also plans to offer workshops and classes to teach residents about gardening techniques and sustainable agriculture practices.

“I began eating a plant-based diet in 2010 for health reasons. The most direct route to being in control of what I was putting in my body was to plant it myself,” McKoy said. “I know exactly what’s in my food and that it’s completely from the earth, with no chemical fertilizers, no pesticides. Now I can continue that organic farming practice for others while helping them truly understand where their food comes from and how precious even one fruit is.”
