Carlos E. Mata, Vice President of Lending & Branch Manager

Rate NMLS # 165941

With 32 years of experience, Carlos Mata is known as the go-to lender for business owners who would like to obtain a mortgage. “Many years ago, I began specializing in representing business owners who needed a mortgage for their homes,” he recounts. Now an expert in the mortgage field, he provides his business-owner clients with a full analysis of lending capabilities and opportunities to grow their real estate portfolio.

Born in Panama City, Panama, Mata came to the United States in 1986 as an exchange student. Hired by a local bank after college, he soon earned a position in the mortgage department. “I still love the challenge of the industry, but mostly I enjoy the positive impact I have on individuals and communities through wealth building,” he shares.

Now the vice president of lending and branch manager at Rate, Mata experienced a 53% growth last year by increasing his loan production from $32 million in 2023 to $49 million in 2024. He credits much of his success to building and receiving support from a strong team.

A member of the National Association of Hispanic Real Estate Professionals, Mata has been one of their top 250 Hispanic originators in the country from 2017 to 2025. In 2000, Mortgage Originator Magazine listed him among their top 250 originators in the country, and in 2006, he appeared in the Atlanta Business Chronicle’s 40 Under 40. He is a key player in Rate’s Language Access Program and serves on the Access Capital for Entrepreneurs Board.

Mata has been married to his wife for 29 years, and they have two college-aged sons. A family of avid runners, they enjoy traveling together as well as visiting national parks, Europe and South America.
