In 1855, the Gustav Mayer House was built by New York Militia commander David Ryers on Staten Island. The 7,700-square-foot, 10-bedroom mansion has had a few owners since then, and fell into disrepair after the infamous real-life subjects of the film Gray Gardens passed away. Current owner Bob Troiano purchased the eerie, well-worn home in the 1990’s, and though he completely remodeled the first floor, its crumbling upstairs has attracted high-profile magazines like Elle, W and Vogue to stage photo shoots against its old brick and faded wallpaper. The Staten Island Gray Gardens is currently listed at $2.31 million.
