This Week in Atlanta Real Estate: Dacula named most family-friendly, affordable suburb outside Atlanta

Dacula was recently named one of the most affordable family-friendly suburbs by realtor.com. The website looked at the 10 largest cities in the country and reviewed the surrounding ZIP codes outside the city limits to find the best suburb for the metro. The 30019 ZIP was singled out for its high number of family-friendly activities, including the 76-acre city park that has a pool, sports fields, playgrounds and an outdoor classroom.

In other Atlanta real estate news:

  • The safest home in America is located outside of Atlanta and is currently on sale for $14.7 million. The Mercury News reports that the 36,000-square-foot compound is built to last 1,000 years and withstand attacks like machine gunfire and lightning strikes. It cost $30 million to construct and is currently down from the original $17.5 million list price.
  • The Providence Group of Georgia opened a new phase at Bellmoore Park in Johns Creek, Georgia, according to BuilderOnline. The latest phase of this gated community includes more than 66 home sites that range from 2,400 to 4,200 square feet. Amenities in the neighborhood include lighted tennis courts with viewing stands and covered pavilion, a wedding garden, and more than 70 acres of green space and pocket parks. Upon completion, Bellmore Park will have more than 600 homes.
  • The Reserve at Gwinnett has been sold for $51 million to Broadtree Residential Inc. The 370-unit apartment community located in northeast Atlanta was built in 1999. The building was sold by Duck Pond Realty Management LLC and the sale was handled by Cushman & Wakefield, according to Rebusiness Online.  
  • The city of Atlanta has picked the top two finalists for its affordable housing design competition. According to a release on domestiCITY, 189 participants from more than 15 countries submitted over 20 designs before being narrowed down to six projects. The top two are Utile, located in Boston, and Lord Aeck Sargent, located in Atlanta. The winner will be announced on Feb. 28.
