Atlanta-area real estate law firm Cook & James recently celebrated 16 years of operations, having facilitated more than 120,000 closings in four states since Feb. 17, 2006. 

The firm, founded by Kara Cook and Heather James, is well known around the Atlanta residential real estate community for specializing in at-home closings. Cook & James specializes in purchase and refinance closings, as well as individual services like title work, recording and deed preparation. As the firm says, “As long as we have access to a power outlet and a cell signal, we’re good to go.” 

Last year, the firm added five attorneys in Georgia, New York and South Carolina, and in 2020, it added another three attorneys and launched its Curbside Closings service in response to pandemic shutdowns. Other recent milestones include opening a satellite office north of Atlanta and adding a South Carolina-based attorney in 2019. Altogether, the firm operates in Georgia, New York, South Carolina and Connecticut and expects to hang a shutter in North Carolina as well. 

“When it was just the two of us at the beginning, Heather and I made a pact that no matter how much we grew, we would never forfeit our industrious roots,” Cook said in a press release. “Today, 16 years later, we can say that, despite our exponential growth, we have maintained our signature integrity with exemplary customer service.
