Sarah Chatel CEO

Chatel Group, Keller Williams Realty Atlanta Midtown

What was your most interesting job before going into real estate?

Selling technology hardware to C-suite

Where did you grow up?

Sanford, Florida, the celery capital of the world.

Growing up, what did you want to be?

Even though I was a 5’2″ tomboy, growing up in an agricultural area of central Florida, climbing and eating my way through orange groves, I always dreamed of being a Rockette and dancing at Radio City Music Hall.

What do you do to relax when you’re stressed?

Heading to the beach when stressed or not, preferably to the east coast of Florida, clears my head and reminds me of my higher purpose.

If you could meet any well-known figure (living or not), who would it be and why?

Lunch that lingered into dinner with Carl Jung and loads of good French wine would be my ideal for spending time with a well known figure. Jung’s theory of the collective unconscious was transformative for me when I read about it in college. I am so curious about how he came to his conclusions and what really happened between Freud and him. Inquiring minds want to know!

What is Atlanta’s best-kept secret?

Morningside Nature Preserve and hiking trails, which consist of six miles of biking and hiking trails, are the best kept intown Atlanta secret, even to Morningside residents.

What do you love most about the industry?

Learning and growing everyday from my associations and networking with agents from all the brokerages in Atlanta is a very rewarding part of the real estate business for me.

How do you distinguish yourself from the crowd of agents?

Kindness, courtesy and general politeness shouldn’t distinguish me from the crowd, and yet that’s what I’ve been told.

What is the most difficult aspect of your job?

Managing expectations.

What’s your best advice for generating new leads?

Call everyone you know, and tell them you’re in real estate. Ask if they know anyone considering buying, selling or investing in property in the next quarter. People you know want to help you be successful. You’ll have a higher ROI in calling your sphere rather than calling strangers.

What are you binge-watching/reading/listening to lately?

The Mandalorian

What’s your favorite meal in Atlanta?

BBQ! Always on the hunt for the best Q in town!

Architecturally speaking, what is your favorite building in Atlanta?

Flatiron Building

What’s the weirdest thing that’s ever happened to you on the job?

Selling an off-market poultry farm in northeast Georgia owned by a childhood friend from 50 years ago who found me on Facebook.

What’s one thing people are surprised to learn about you?

I’ve been an actress in Atlanta for over 30 years doing commercials, radio voice over, TV and film.

What is your favorite vacation spot and why?

New Smyrna Beach, Florida. I grew up 20 miles from there and have been going back to the same stretch of beach for over 50 years with family and friends. We’ve been part of a sea turtle volunteer rescue team since my children were little. Now we’re introducing their kids to the save the sea turtle efforts.

What is your favorite city after Atlanta?

Istanbul – Beautiful people, setting and culture. A must see if you haven’t already!

In 10 words or less, what is your advice for someone new to the industry?

Never take yourself too seriously, and keep a sense of humor.

What’s your favorite real estate iPhone/Android app?

Follow Up Boss

Who are your favorite people to follow on social media?
