Atlanta ranked No. 7 and No. 8 among the 25 largest U.S. cities for coworking spaces and coworking square footage, respectively, in the second quarter, CoworkingCafe reported. This reflects an increase in the number of local coworking facilities and a decrease in overall square feet.
Manhattan, Los Angeles and Chicago took the top three spots for coworking square footage, while Los Angeles, Dallas-Fort Worth and Manhattan took the top spots for number of coworking spaces, CoworkingCafe said, citing data from sister company Yardi Matrix.
In Atlanta, the number of coworking spaces rose 5% quarter over quarter, from 216 to 226, while the city’s total square footage of coworking space slid 0.3%, from 4.37 million square feet to 4.36 million square feet. At the same time, the average square footage of Atlanta’s coworking locations dipped 5% from 20,240 square feet to 19,300 square feet.
Nationally, the stock of coworking spaces increased 7% in the second quarter, rising to 7,041 locations. By square footage, total coworking space rose 2% to 127.7 million square feet, while the average square feet per location slid 4% to 18,133 square feet.
In terms of coworking subscriptions in Atlanta, virtual office prices dropped from $176 per month to $148, while dedicated desks dropped from $294 to $289, and open workspaces were flat at $139.
Nationally, the median rates for virtual offices, open workspaces and dedicated desks stood at $119, $149 and $300, respectively, at the end of the second quarter.
