James B. Chapman, President

Jim Chapman Construction Group

Born and raised in Atlanta, James B. Chapman grew up immersed in the industry and knew early on that he wanted to become a real estate developer. Now with 26 years of residential construction and development experience under his belt, Chapman credits his father, an architect who still works with him today, for inspiring his passion for building.

Chapman specializes in the development and construction of build-to-rent (BTR) communities across the Southeast. He leads a company that offers a full range of services, including pre-construction assistance, design/build, construction management and general contracting. His BTR projects range from single-family, detached homes to attached townhomes built on expansive plots of land for institutional investors and multifamily developers. His business style is centered on hard work, consistency and teamwork, and his ability to sell not only his company’s capabilities but also himself as a leader has been key to his success. His sterling reputation for honesty and straightforwardness draws clients through referrals and repeat business.

Chapman is a member of the National Association of Home Builders and aspires to one day become its chairman. He is also a member of the Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association, where he is a lifetime board member and has previously served as president. Additionally, he is the immediate past president of the Home Builders Association of Georgia, where he has held various other leadership roles. Chapman’s most recent accolades include achieving the Greater Atlanta Homebuilders Association’s Lewis Cenker Award and the Home Builders Association of Georgia’s Builder Member of the Year award — both in 2023.

Outside of his professional life, Chapman is committed to philanthropy. He serves on the board of the Schenck School and has held leadership roles with Wesley Woods Senior Living and Northside Methodist Atlanta. His proudest personal accomplishment this year was seeing his son successfully venture off to boarding school at McCallie in Chattanooga.
