It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Atlanta, which was recently named 2025’s best city for Christmas celebrations by WalletHub.
The finance company scored the 100 largest U.S. cities based on key indicators like traditions, shopping and cost using data from sources including the U.S. Census Bureau and the Corporation for National and Community Service. Atlanta ranked No. 1, surpassing several snowier locales like New York.
Access to food and fun helped boost Atlanta’s score. It had some of the highest numbers of bakeries, holiday decor stores and card shops per capita in the nation. Atlanta also provides many opportunities to enjoy one of the most beloved Christmas traditions, the Christmas tree, claiming the 10th-most Christmas tree farms in the nation per capita.
And whether giving or receiving, Atlantans truly exhibit the holiday spirit: The city ranked No. 6 in the nation for shopping and No. 16 for generosity. Atlanta residents also gave the 13th-most online donations per capita, and were among the top ten for percentage of residents who donate clothing to charity.
Google search trends analyzed by WalletHub also revealed that Atlanta residents Googled holiday-related terms more frequently than people in most other cities.
Another quality making Atlanta one of the best places to celebrate the season in style is its affordability. The city ranked 39th overall for costs and offered plenty of affordable restaurants rated at least 4.5 stars for those looking for a break from cookie baking or ham roasting.
“With inflation making Christmas celebrations, gifts, food and travel more expensive, certain cities are much better for your wallet than others during the holiday,” said WalletHub analyst Chip Lupo. “In addition to being affordable, the best cities have a large number of people celebrating, plenty of places for Christians to worship, populations who give generously to charity and plenty of fun activities to enjoy with family and friends.”
