Atlanta was ranked the fifth-smartest city in the U.S. in a new study by real estate technology firm ProptechOS.
The study looked at 11 indicators of a smart city, such as broadband-download speeds, the number of tech jobs and access to electric-vehicle charging points, all of which were grouped in three overall categories: tech infrastructure and connectivity, green infrastructure and the tech-driven job market.
Atlanta tied Austin, Texas, as the highest-ranked U.S. city for green infrastructure. The cities were just below London in a ranking of U.S. and European cities.
According to the study, Atlanta has the fifth-highest number of EV charging stations in the country, the fourth-highest number of Internet of Things companies per 100,000 people and the 10th-highest number of green-certified buildings.
“The cities that will thrive in the future are the ones best adapted to our new and greener ways of living,” ProptechOS founder and Chief Ecosystem Officer Erik Wallin said in a press release. “By looking at a range of factors, including tech infrastructure, sustainability and the tech-driven job market, we were able to get a better picture of which U.S. and European cities will be leading the way into a smarter future.”
