Atlanta ranked No. 2 among the cities most Americans would like to move to if money were no object, according to a new study from real estate data company Clever.
Los Angeles took the top spot in the ranking, while Austin, Texas, was No. 3.
Among other findings of the survey, which polled 1,000 Americans on their moves over the last year, California was the top state respondents wanted to move to, followed by Florida, Hawaii, New York and Colorado.
And while California topped the most wish lists, it was actually the top state for move-outs in 2022, while Florida was the No. 1 destination.
The reasons people moved last year varied, with a better quality of life ranking No. 1, followed by lower cost of living/home prices, upsizing to a larger house, working remotely and proximity to friends and family.
When it comes to post-move regrets, survey respondents had a few: 36% of Americans reported experiencing regret about their moves, with 15% not liking their new homes and 20% wishing they’d chosen a bigger place.
Despite their regrets, 65% of respondents approached moving with positive emotions (excited, hopeful, or relieved), while 59% reported negative emotions ahead of their moves (stressed, anxious, frustrated or dread).
Perhaps unsurprisingly, given the stress of moving, a significant number of Americans — 44% — reported that they cried at least once during the relocation process.
