Atlanta has made it onto yet another list of noteworthy cities, this time for its (relative) affordability when it comes to buying a house. Atlanta proper ranked No. 15 among the 68 largest metros with populations of more than 300,000 people in WalletHub’s 2023 Most Affordable Cities for Home Buyers analysis.
WalletHub compared the cities across 10 metrics: housing affordability, maintenance affordability, average cost of homeowner insurance, cost of living, cost per square foot, real estate tax rate, rent-to-price ratio, median home-price appreciation, quarterly active listings per capita and vacancy rate.
The most-affordable large cities were Detroit, Pittsburgh and Columbus, Ohio, while the least affordable large cities were San Francisco, Los Angeles and New York.
Atlanta also performed relatively well in the company’s broader survey of 300 U.S. cities, which included midsize (100,000 to 300,000 residents) and small cities (less than 100,000 residents) in addition to large, coming in at No. 53. Among all cities, the most affordable was Montgomery, Alabama, and the least affordable was Santa Barbara, California.
