With the holidays arriving, 83% of Americans are decorating for the festivities, according to Lombardo Homes. The new-construction company is unwrapping all the stats surrounding Americans’ and their holiday cheer.
Lombardo Homes conducted two recent studies: First, they analyzed 6,708 Google search terms related to Christmas decorations. Then, they surveyed 1,000 Americans to get their feedback on holiday decorations, in general.
Holiday decor
Based on the findings, the average American spent $140 on decorations this year, an extreme increase from 2022’s average of $82. However, 66% of respondents said they are spending the same, 27% said they are spending less, and 7% said they are spending more. Additionally, nearly four in five people said they will be decorating a Christmas tree this year, making Christmas trees the most popular decoration.
The most popular holiday decorations in America are, in order:
1. Christmas tree
2. Christmas lights
3. Mistletoe
4. Gingerbread
5. Snowmen
6. Garlands
7. Stockings
8. Wreaths
9. Candy canes
10. Nativity scenes
Survey respondents also weighed in on the debate of real vs. fake Christmas trees. Data finds that 67% of Americans prefer artificial trees, while 33% prefer real trees. This could have something to do with 90% of Americans saying that real Christmas trees are getting more expensive.
