Construction on Atlanta’s Eastside Beltline, 2012

After years of waiting, the Beltline is now in the works of extending its Eastside trail. The extension will allow cyclists and pedestrians to travel from Piedmont Park all the way to Memorial Drive.

Despite the plans for production, there are still obstacles to overcome. The deadline to submit builder bids was Oct. 13, but a finalized proposal has not been selected. As a result, a timeline is not available. However, the funding for the project has been confirmed, and the portion of the rail line has been secured where construction will take place.

Currently, the Beltline has an open request for qualifications to finalize the designs for the Southside trail; the deadline is Nov. 2nd. At the moment, it is unclear if the project will be completed all at once or have a rolling production, which allows open segments to be used once completed.

Once the production starts, it aims to be complete within 18 months. It’s estimated to be complete by the middle of 2017.
