New Construction News

Atlanta’s City Council on Monday approved a measure to require for-sale residential developments near the new Westside Park to include affordable units, as city leaders seek to temper looming gentrification on the Westside.

The new phase will offer 11 farmhouse-style homes priced from the low $300,000s.

The gap between sales and construction reached a record high in 2020, which likely means a slowing down in sales and growth in construction in 2021, according to a year-end report by the National Association of Home Builders.

“Nothing sells like a shortage. We have underbuilt new housing relative to demand for a decade. Building will have to exceed household formation for a number of years to reduce the housing stock ‘debt’ we have accumulated.” — First American Deputy Chief Economist Odeta Kushi

Priced from the low $700,000s, the homes provide a covered front porch and welcoming foyer, 10-foot ceilings, a gourmet kitchen, a spa-like bath that contains a freestanding soaking tub, among a number of other amenities.

Ellington comprises townhomes and single-family homes with townhomes starting at the mid-$300,000s and single-family homes starting at $400,000.

Pulte also noted that another community of single-family homes is also in the works somewhere in Cobb County.
