Buford Academy in the Buford City School District is the top elementary school in the Metro Atlanta area.

That ranking came courtesy of the analytics website Niche, which just released its 2016 rankings of public schools from across the country.

Here is Niche’s full top five, of which four schools were in Decatur County School District:

1. Buford Academy, Buford, Buford City School District

2. Fifth Avenue Elementary School, Decatur, City Schools of Decatur

3. Clairemont Elementary School, Decatur, City Schools of Decatur

4. New Glennwood Elementary School, Decatur, City Schools of Decatur

5. Winnona Park Elementary School, Decatur, City Schools of Decatur

Niche’s rankings derive from four categories: the “Academics Grade,” which incorporates statistics and surveys from students, alumni and parents; the “District Overall Experience Grade,” which considers all aspects of the wider district, including academics, teachers, health, safety, and facilities; the “Teachers Grade,” which incorporates stats and surveys about teachers; and the “Student Culture and Diversity Grade,” which utilizes surveys and stats on the school’s culture and diversity.

I’m not 100% sure about this, but I think the listings that say “Decatur County School District” should read “DeKalb County School District.” Decatur County is in south GA, but these schools are in Decatur, DeKalb County, GA. I know Decatur maintains its own school district, though, so again, I’m not 100% sure about all this.

      Justin,

thank you for your comment! We double-checked the districts, and it looks like our initial sources misled us – the schools are located in City Schools of Decatur.
