Where are the Fixer-Uppers in the MLS?

by Chicago Agent

Have you ever paid attention to some of the words used to describe properties in the MLS? LeapRE searched for keywords in descriptions that could be signals to have your affiliate recommendations ready for clients who buy the properties. In the entire MLS, 10.68 percent of properties were described with keywords that could mean they need some fixing up: “fixer” was used 39 times; “teardown” 232 times; “rehabber” 164 times; “needs work” and “work needed” were counted 1,165 times; “repairs needed” and “needs repairs” 4,763 times; and “as is” 5,464 times.

Though 89.32 percent of properties in the MLS don’t use these words in their descriptions, you never know when you might need to refer a client to an affiliate for a repair on any property – and judging from the property, some jobs might be bigger than others.
