Atlanta new construction continues to boom, as August’s construction starts are up nearly 60 percent compared to this time last year, according to the latest Dodge Data & Analytics report.
Residential construction in the Atlanta-Sandy Springs-Marietta MSA is up 62 percent in August 2017 to $898.1 million compared to $553.8 million spent August 2016. Nonresidential construction starts reached $500 million, which is a 54 percent increase over $323.6 million in August 2016.
Total construction activity reached nearly $11 billion on a year-to-date basis, a 31 percent increase compared to this time last year. Residential starts make up $6.3 billion of that, up 19 percent from $5.3 billion spent year-to-date last year. Nonresidential starts total $4.5 billion year-to-date, which is up 52 percent compared to last year’s $3 billion spent.
