Megan Lyons Realtor, RE/MAX Around Atlanta

What was your most interesting job before going into real estate?

Receptionist at the Ritz-Carlton Spa in Lake Oconee. Got to see a lot of celebs!

Where did you grow up?

South Jersey, Maryland and moved to Suwanee in 10th grade.

Growing up, what did you want to be?

I used to actually “play” Realtor as a kid. My parents happened to use a RE/MAX agent, so it’s funny that this is where I landed. I also told people I wanted to be a hairdresser.

What do you do to relax when you’re stressed?

Work out or have some wine and watch TV.

If you could meet any well-known figure (living or not), who would it be and why?

Andy Cohen, because I’m a huge fan and think we would be great friends.

What is Atlanta’s best-kept secret?

The restaurant scene. I’m not sure people outside of Atlanta know how many amazing restaurants we have in and around the city.

What do you love most about the industry?

Helping people with one of the biggest life decisions they will ever make. I truly enjoy being there to guide buyers and sellers and see them happy at the end of the transaction.

How do you distinguish yourself from the crowd of agents?

My partner, Natalie, and I work with all of our clients together, so each buyer and seller has two agents available to them. We pride ourselves on hand-holding and being super responsive. Our goal is for every client to feel as though they are our only client.

What is the most difficult aspect of your job?

This answer really depends on the times, but right now the most difficult part is navigating a buyer through a seller’s market. We have learned how to make super-attractive offers, but there are still times when our buyers may not get the home they had their eyes set on. Luckily, things work out, and they always end up with something even better!

What’s your best advice for generating new leads?

Stay in front of your past clients and love on your biggest supporters — the ones who send you referrals get even more love! We love working with friends and family of past clients, so this is our way of lead-generating that works best for us!

What are you binge-watching/reading/listening to lately?

Listening to the new Clubhouse app often — lots of idea-sharing among Realtors across the nation. Always binge-watching reality TV, as it is not serious and dramatic and helps me relax.

What’s your favorite meal in Atlanta?

Hard to narrow this one, but I love the carbonara dish at no. 246 when they have it on the menu.

Architecturally speaking, what is your favorite building in Atlanta?

Fox Theatre

What’s the weirdest thing that’s ever happened to you on the job?

One house we showed was all sorts of weird: The lockbox came off with the entire doorknob, and there was someone in one of the rooms who wouldn’t let us in.

What’s one thing people are surprised to learn about you?

I’ve never had a brain freeze. Random, but it’s a fact!

What is your favorite vacation spot and why?

Charleston because it’s easy to get to from Atlanta and has an array of different vibes and atmospheres throughout the multiple islands. Also has a great food scene.

What is your favorite city after Atlanta?

Chicago

In 10 words or less, what is your advice for someone new to the industry?

Choose a broker who will invest time in YOU!

What’s your favorite real estate iPhone/Android app?

It’s not particularly a real estate app, but I would say Instagram. I love to share real estate-related posts and see all sorts of other home-related things on other accounts I follow.

Who are your favorite people to follow on social media?

Tracy Tutor, Tiffany Jenkins, Heather McMahan, Jessica Garvin, Brittany Felton, Jackie Schimmel, Courtney Kerr, The Winfield Group and many, many more!
