National homebuilder D.R. Horton recently closed on the second tranche of a two-phase purchase of 65 lots in the Madison Lakes Master Plan in Morgan County.

Madison Lakes is a planned-unit development capable of supporting 1,471 single-family units. It is located 1.2 miles south of I-20, which provides direct access to downtown Atlanta.

The majority of the master plan comprises 913 acres of undeveloped land, while the developed portion contains 213 lots, open space, ponds and a recreational facility with a clubhouse, swimming pool, playground and tennis courts.

The seller, land-asset management company Walton Global, closed on the first phase of the D.R. Horton transaction in September 2021 with the sale of 40 lots. The second phase of 25 lots closed April 7. Altogether, D.R. Horton purchased 44 acres of land.

“It is very exciting to have Horton in the Madison Lakes community,” Anthony Sparrow, Walton’s senior vice president of Tennessee and Georgia, said in a press release. “This will provide badly needed housing inventory in a market that has seen recent job growth and housing demand. Horton’s variety of housing product and superb marketing capabilities will be a great fit for the market and community.”
