Ohio 55-plus homebuilder Epcon Communities to expand into Atlanta

by John Yellig

Homebuilder Epcon Communities is entering the Atlanta market and plans to open a corporate office in the Roswell/Alpharetta area.

The builder, which specializes in residences for the 55-plus demographic, has identified several potential sites for its first developments and aims to build 200 to 300 homes per year in the region, with an initial focus on the northern suburbs.

Epcon, which operates a homebuilding franchise company with more than 80 builders in 24 states, also develops properties itself, with operations in Columbus, Ohio; Charlotte and Raleigh, N.C.; and Indianapolis.

“This new office marks the first time Epcon Communities has entered the Atlanta market as the corporate home builder,” President and director Phil Fankhauser said in a press release. “We feel confident it will be a great fit for our fifth corporate market and look forward to continuing to expand our footprint across the country.”

The Dublin, Ohio-based company has hired former Taylor Morrison vice president of land resources Ted Turner to lead the Atlanta office, which is expected to hire 12 to 24 people in coming years.
