Atlanta ranked most creative city in U.S.

by John Yellig

Atlanta was ranked the No. 1 city for creativity by project-management software company Workamajig, which cited the city’s vibrant street-art scene, deep musical heritage and booming creative economy.

Atlanta’s robust music scene, which boasts 11 times more music festivals than the national average, surfeit of museums and numerous art schools also propelled it to the top of the rankings, where it was followed by Miami and Portland, Oregon.

Workamajig’s analysis also found Atlanta has the highest number of talent and creative outlets per capita and one of the highest numbers of art galleries.

To develop its rankings, Workamajig, which produces project-management software for creatives, compiled a list of every U.S. city with more than 100,000 people and analyzed factors related to creativity, including the number of museums per capita, the number of creative jobs in industries like marketing, arts and design, the number of artists and musicians and the number of film and music festivals per capita.

Here’s the top 10:

  1. Atlanta.
  1. Miami.
  1. Portland, Oregon.
  1. Pasadena, California.
  1. Berkely, California.
  1. Los Angeles
  1. Chicago
  1. Glendale, California.
  1. New Haven, Connecticut.
  1. Lansing, Michigan.
