More than 60 HomeAid Atlanta volunteers from local real estate and banking businesses performed over $16,000 worth of work at Calvary Refuge Center in Forest Park and Gwinnett Housing Corp. (GHC) in Norcross during two Care Days in March.
At Calvary, which provides an emergency shelter for individuals and families experiencing homelessness, over 30 volunteers from BOMA Georgia, Pinnacle Financial Partners and Ameris Bank painted the men’s and women’s dorm rooms, while North Georgia Exterior Cleaning pressure-washed the refuge’s exterior and cleaned its roof and gutters.
At GHC, over 30 volunteers from Lennar Atlanta and Complete Permitting Services completed demolitions, cleanout and landscaping ahead of a HomeAid remodel project that will be led by Lennar. Once renovated, the facility will become GHC’s Affordable Housing Resource Center, providing education and assistance to low-income families as they work toward homeownership. Magic Touch Construction Services donated two Dumpsters, and 24/7 Concrete provided materials and labor to set the footers at the site.
“HomeAid Care Days make such a significant impact on the lives of people struggling with homelessness,” said Karen McLane, HomeAid Atlanta director of community engagement. “Knowing that someone, even strangers, care enough to make things nicer, cleaner and more beautiful can often provide the boost they need to keep fighting and hoping for better days ahead.”
HomeAid Care Days are volunteer workdays that provide free maintenance and repairs for local homelessness organizations. HomeAid Atlanta has plans for at least eight more Care Days in 2023.
