What was your most interesting job before going into real estate?
I have owned and operated a water utility company for 34 years, and I’m the first woman of color to be on the board of the Georgia Utility Contractors Association in its history. I also owned the first African-American horse and carriage company in Atlanta.

Southwest Atlanta
Growing up, what did you want to be?
A fight attendant. I was all set to attend flight-attendant school until I met my husband, and those plans changed!
What do you do to relax when you’re stressed?
Spend time with my grandkids. They are so funny and entertaining! I also like to go to our lake home and simply enjoy the surroundings with my four furry babies.
If you could meet any well-known figure (living or not), who would it be and why?
Cicely Tyson. I admired her as an actress and felt that a conversation with her would be so interesting and priceless.
What is Atlanta’s best-kept secret?
Our small local wineries! We have several that are almost unknown but are gems. Right here in places like Henry County.
What do you love most about the industry?
Changing lives through homeownership. There isn’t a better feeling than being a part of helping people realize their dream. I particularly love working with first-time buyers and feeling their excitement and appreciation.
How do you distinguish yourself from the crowd of agents?
I just be ME! I feel God has made us all different and unique, and my personality and qualities are unique to me, and I allow who I am to truly come through when I meet my clients. I believe that people can feel the authenticity and genuine connection.
What is the most difficult aspect of your job?
When I can’t immediately get a client approved or telling them they have been outbid on a property they really wanted.
What’s your best advice for generating new leads?
Connect! Nothing like good old fashioned grassroots prospecting. Go to the numerous local festivals and community events and get involved so people come to know you through familiarity. That gives them a sense of trust.
What are you binge-watching/reading/listening to lately?
I have been watching a Netflix series called From. I am a huge sci-fi horror movie fan!
What’s your favorite meal in Atlanta?
Hal’s. Their chargrilled oysters make you feel you’re in New Orleans.
Architecturally speaking, what is your favorite building in Atlanta?
The Flatiron building. I loved to take my customers by there when I drove my horse and carriage in downtown Atlanta.
What’s the weirdest thing that’s ever happened to you on the job?
Early in my career, I was showing a home, and the elderly owner apparently forgot about the appointment. I thought the house was empty and proceeded to bring the potential buyer in and we were welcomed by the seller in his birthday suit! We were all so embarrassed, and I was speechless, but my client broke the ice by saying, “Well, I believe we’ve seen all we needed to see!” We hurried out of the house, and my seller apologized profusely. And yes, they did buy the house!
What’s one thing people are surprised to learn about you?
That I love to fish.

Be consistent, patient and use your creativity.
