Atlanta’s housing market has continued to recover in recent months, aided by the improving economy driving demand. Still tight credit, however, remains a reality for prospective homebuyers in the Atlanta area.

“Lenders are still feeling the effects of the financial crisis of 2008-2010,” Holly Walther, senior mortgage banker at Heritage Bank, said. “Even though credit quality today is as good as it has ever been, the efter affects of the agency buybacks, losses due to home price declines and potential for future job losses still weigh heavily on many underwriting decisions.”
