Rich, saturated colors and mixed metals among the top home design trends in 2018

by

Expect urban farmhouse designs, fashion-influenced trends, mixed metals and richly saturated colors to make a splash this year. Angela Nuessle, director at Pulte Homes National Interior Design, recently revealed the latest design and décor trends that are sure to be popping up in homes in 2018.

Lighting plays a big role in establishing specific home designs

For an industrial glam look, crystal details might be paired with metallic touches to create a sense of warmth and softness throughout the home. High-sheen accessories, rich fabrics and more delicate furnishings can offset and complement industrial pieces.

The urban farmhouse trend combines two popular design aesthetics for an environment that is both casual and edgy. Incorporating rustic, high-gloss elements and lustrous metals, especially in lighting, makes for contemporary home design with rural traces.

A minimalist look centered around Nordic and Scandinavian themes can be achieved with simple linear lighting. When added to sheepskin throws and natural wood furniture, this lighting gives the impression of an organic and informal, though balanced, design.

Runway fashion inspires

Runway trends will continue to make their way into home décor in 2018. Velvet has become a favorite for the depth and luster it adds to a room when implemented with upholstery, drapery and accent pillows.

Also fashion-inspired, the use of subdued pastels in interior design. Soothing tones like rose, violet and calming blue cultivate tranquility in a space. Accent paint, textiles, accessories, rugs and florals of these shades pair effortlessly with any neutral color.

Bold prints, dark motifs, mixed metals attract attention

Home design in 2018 will excite with bold statements, from flower prints and animal patterns to the mixing of metals in furnishings, plumbing fixtures, cabinet hardware and accessories. Introducing richly saturated colors to any room of the home, through walls and wallpaper, drapery to bedding, can have a striking effect. Popular hues for 2018 include cobalt, emerald, onyx and cranberry. Mixed metals will likely remain a trend beyond 2018, providing endless possibilities across the design spectrum, from industrial to ultra-modern styles.
