The Peach State has in recent years become a top relocation destination for Americans, and 2022 was no exception. According to StorageCafe, Georgia saw a net influx of 74,000 residents that year, putting it in fifth place in the U.S. 

In 2022, the most recent year for which Census data is available, 327,000 people moved to Florida, while 252,000 people left. The state’s robust economy, built on a diverse array of industries including film, logistics, manufacturing and technology — as well as the draw of Atlanta, the Capital of the South — has long served as a beacon for out-of-staters. 

First in the nation for inbound migration was Florida, followed by Texas, North Carolina and Arizona, which gives the Sun Belt a clean sweep of the top five states. On the flip side, the states with the greatest out-migration in 2022 were California, New York, Illinois, New Jersey and Maryland, according to StorageCafe.
