A “Change the World” Attitude

by Peter Thomas Ricci

Craig Witt

I often think about my funeral and what that will look like. Will I hear crickets or will it be standing room only? How long will I be remembered, and for what? When you think about your place here on earth, your significance to your family and to others, think about this: on Friday, November 22nd, 1963 at 12:30 pm, John F. Kennedy was assassinated in Dealy Plaza in Dallas, Texas.

At or around 1 pm, he was replaced by Lyndon B. Johnson as President. Think about that; the most important person in our country, was replaced in 30 minutes, and the rest goes down in history as the crime of the century.

Why do I bring this up? Because even though many do great things and hold unbelievable stature and importance, everyone dies, eventually, and gets replaced to carry on the work at hand. You see, the passing this week of tech legend Steve Jobs is being felt by everyone around the world. Whether you own an Apple device or not, Apple is synonymous with innovation, creativity and leadership by someone that simply wanted the consumer to experience the best technology could offer. Many say Apple was ahead of its time, but everyone seemed to grab on and fall in love with the consumer friendly products and image that was developed by this single human being.

Now, even I am not naive enough to believe he was the only one behind Apple. Building a multibillion dollar company takes a team of people that share your dreams, and are willing to defend their company no matter what obstacle is in the way. That undying passion for the same result, always striving to succeed because you and everyone around you believe you can change the world. He was quoted as saying to Pepsi executive John Sculley, “Do you want to sell sugar water for the rest of your life, or do you want to come with me and change the world?” This is a bold statement, but he believed it, and Apple did change the world when it comes to technology.

We are Realtors. We have the ability to change someone’s life. We help people start new lives and realize their dreams of homeownership. We defend their best interest and we defend our Code of Ethics, and hold ourselves out to be professional Realtors. We also defend the companies we belong to. The question is, and will always be, do you love what you do? Are you in the right career and does it satisfy you? Are you in the right company and does it meet your needs? Are you getting closer to your goals or farther away? Is there something better for you and your family?

EXIT Realty was created because our founder Steve Morris saw the need to re-invent real estate, just like Steve Jobs saw the need to re-invent the telephone. It was and still is our mission to provide something more for Realtors; better commissions, better training, financial stability, and a vested interest in building a company where you feel ownership. Our business system will change the world for Realtors just like Apple did for consumers. EXIT is 15 years young this year and has survived an economical recession no one expected. We are the future of real estate, and we are not stopping until we are the most productively successful real estate company on earth.
