Cook & James celebrates 17 years in the real estate-closing business

by John Yellig

Roswell-based real estate law firm Cook & James celebrates its “golden birthday” today, Feb. 17, marking 17 years in business.

Since it was founded by Heather James and Kara Cook in 2006, the firm has grown significantly, bringing its real estate-closing capabilities to a satellite office in Woodstock, as well as Connecticut, New York and South Carolina.

“Birthdays and anniversaries are always a good time for reflection, personally and professionally,” James said. “When Kara and I opened our firm 17 years ago, we could not have known the excitement in store for us. Our reality today is a result of our past fastidious emphasis on providing the absolute highest level of professionalism and delivering a quintessential positive real estate closing experience for each and every client, each and every time, despite any challenge that might present itself.”

The firm pioneered the at-home closing, which it expanded to include the “curbside closing” in response to the pandemic. Looking ahead, Cook & James plans to hold numerous events, like new-agent breakfasts, a candle-making class at its Roswell office and other networking opportunities.

Recently, Cook & James launched a series of educational video shorts — Reels — on Instagram. The team plans to roll out new Reels regularly on the Cook & James Instagram page, covering topics like Federal Reserve meetings, the dangers of wire fraud, attorney tips and employee spotlights, among others.

“We are thrilled to have been able to share our Cook & James journey with so many great partners over the last 17 years,” Cook said. “Clients, employees and other industry professionals have all shaped our firm. Today, despite some definite headwinds, we have maintained our signature integrity, steered by … our caring, competent attitudes and abilities.”
