KB Home enters Atlanta with 110-homesite community

by John Yellig

National homebuilder KB Home has entered the Atlanta market with the acquisition of a 110-homesite development that will open as Whitley Meadows in early 2027.

The company named Atlanta homebuilding veteran and former Toll Brothers executive, Bill Schmidt, to lead its operations in the region as division president.

Whitley Meadows is located in Bethlehem on the border of Barrow and Gwinnett counties and is zoned to Gwinnett County schools. The community will offer single-family homes ranging from 2,000 to 3,100 square feet and amenities including a pool, cabana, playground and walking trails.

Schmidt, who joined KB Home in 2025, has over 35 years of homebuilding experience, including 25 in Atlanta. He holds a B.S. in landscape architecture and planning from University of Florida and an MBA in real estate development from Nova Southeastern University.

“Bill’s broad experience across multiple disciplines, combined with his deep knowledge of the Atlanta housing market, has been invaluable as we establish our presence in the region,” KB Home Regional President Vince DePorre said. “We are excited about the long-term opportunities in Atlanta and look forward to growing our footprint in the market in the years ahead.”
