Calling all coffee aficionados! Atlanta is one of the best coffee cities, according to a new study from WalletHub.
According to the National Coffee Association, 66% of Americans drink coffee every day, consuming a total of 519 million cups daily — and many of those cups are sipped in Atlanta.
To determine the best coffee scenes in the nation, WalletHub compared the 100 largest U.S. cities across factors like coffee shops and cafes per capita, cost of coffee and number of coffee drinkers. The study drew data from the U.S. Census Bureau, Council for Community and Economic Research and other sources.
Atlanta placed No. 11. Portland, Oregon, Orlando, Florida and Long Beach, California took the top three spots.
Households in Atlanta spend an average of $198 annually on coffee, one of the highest amounts in the country. Plus, Atlanta boasted some of the most affordable cappuccino prices and ranked in the top five metros for spots with free Wi-Fi.
So, what fuels this love of coffee in Atlanta and other top-ranking cities?
“Science, for one, has convinced us that caffeine possesses multiple health benefits besides mental stimulation,” said WalletHub analysts. “At the right dosages, caffeine may contribute to longevity. Perhaps just as important, though, is coffee’s social purpose. Today, coffee stations are a staple of the workplace, and tens of thousands of shops serve as meeting places for friends, dates and coworkers.”
