In the past few years, Brian Berman has earned the reputation for being a problem solver. “Almost every day, I get a phone call from a Realtor I have not met, asking if I can fix an issue they are having with a loan from a different lender,” says Berman, owner and loan officer of Mortgage Atlanta LLC. When he can come to the rescue and help a buyer get the home they wanted, it gives him tremendous satisfaction.
Listed among Mortgage Professionals America’s 2017 Hot 100 in the U.S., Berman is a multi-year recipient of the MBGA Platinum and Diamond awards. An Atlanta resident since 1982, he has worked in the industry for 14 years, applying the economic, finance and law skills he developed while attending Bentley University in Waltham, Massachusetts, to assist buyers in making the best decision for their unique situation. “My economics focus was on interest rates and monetary policy while my focus in Finance was in the bond market and financial planning,” he says.
His client base varies, from first-time homebuyers to luxury buyers to investors to veterans. “The mortgage business is really a commodity,” he says. “Anyone can get a mortgage from a bank or online these days. However, most of those people are confused and frustrated at the end of the process.”
Berman strives to not only be competitive in rate and costs but also to be the very top in terms of service and communication. He always makes sure everyone in the process is informed and knows what’s going to happen next. “Most lenders quote rates and costs and hope the borrower picks them,” he says. “We strive to make the process more personal.” He creates custom loan scenarios, giving clients multiple options and devising loans specific to their needs.
Most recently, Berman enabled a buyer, who was turned away from other lenders, to close on a loan that was upwards of $1 million, without any issues. He took the time to listen, meet with their CPA, and review their tax returns and asset statements.
Married for nine years, Berman and his wife have two young children. “The three of them are the best part of my day and my motivation to succeed,” he says.
