The City of Atlanta and the Atlanta Urban Development Corporation are eyeing a plot of city-owned property at 0 Barge Road for an affordable housing development. The 11-acre site would offer proximity to a planned terminal station of the MARTA Campbellton bus line.
The parties issued a request for qualifications for the project, the first step in the redevelopment process. If plans move forward, the development will include affordable homeownership opportunities. The initiative aligns with Mayor Andre Dickens’ stated goal of building or preserving 20,000 units of affordable housing by 2029.
“This RFQ represents a significant step towards revitalizing southwest Atlanta and ensuring our communities have access to quality, affordable housing,” Dickens said in a press release. “We are dedicated to creating neighborhoods that are equitable, healthy and thriving — and this project is a crucial part of that vision.”
Qualified developers are invited to apply to lead the redevelopment via a public-private model. Submissions close on Oct. 10.
“This initiative is a testament to our commitment to transforming public land into vibrant, amenity-rich communities with opportunity for home ownership,” added AUD CEO John Majors. We invite qualified developers to join us in this historic endeavor to enhance the lives of residents in Atlanta.”
