Keith Spain began his career in community banking by helping financial institutions upgrade their systems. But as he learned more about the industry, he became interested in residential lending and transitioned to that side of the business.

“Starting my career in community banking helped me understand all aspects of financial services,” says Spain, VP senior loan officer at BankSouth Mortgage. “Having a strong understanding of the financial markets and lending resources is essential in helping a borrower achieve their financial goals.”

Spain leads the Spain Team, which includes a loan officer assistant and two loan processors. A long-time member of the Mortgage Banker Association of Georgia, he has won multiple Emerald Awards for production of more than $100 million, along with many other top honors throughout his 25 years in lending.

“Communication should be the cornerstone of any business practice,” he says. “I believe in proactive, clear and quick communication. Our operations team has the same approach to communication with our borrowers, agents, closing attorneys, etc. This is a fast-paced business and our clients don’t have time to wait around for an answer.”

Always out to make borrowers feel comfortable before they start working with him and his team, he gets to know them first, ask about their goals and what they want in a mortgage experience. He has built a business based on repeat and referral customers and a reputation for delivering stress-free, on-time closings.

Spain assisted 200 families in the past year with their home financing needs. Whether those clients were first-time buyers, retirees purchasing that long-awaited home in the mountains or couples starting families and in need of more space, he was honored to play a special role in their lives.

Spain supports BankSouth Mortgage’s philanthropic efforts, including HomeAid Atlanta, which works to end homelessness.

He also enjoys dining out, gardening, cooking and travel.
