Every week, we ask a real estate professional for their Short List, a collection of tips and recommendations on an essential topic in real estate. This week, we talked with Tammi Sullenberger, a Realtor with Keller Williams Realty Atlanta Partners, for her top ways to become an effective communicator.

3. Communicate in the Manner Your Client Prefers – This will be demonstrated in the first few contacts you have with them. If they text you, more than likely they prefer to text; if they like email, only email them, if provided you get a quick response.

2. ALWAYS Answer Your Phone – So many agents do not answer their phone on a regular basis. That is a big mistake, and a common complaint I hear all the time. If you absolutely cannot answer your phone, be sure that your voice mailbox will allow for new messages; so many times, agents’ voice mailboxes are full and will not allow for anymore new messages. You may miss a call for a $1 million listing! Return any missed calls ASAP.

1. Once a Week, Email Your Clients a Market Update – Even if nothing is going on and they have had no showings, it is important to let your clients know that you are still out there working their listing and trying to get it sold. Getting updates about any changes in the market will help satisfy them until their next showing.
