Single-family homes, not condos, now planned for downtown Alpharetta

by John Yellig

Cumming-based Kairos Development Corp. is seeking to develop 10 luxury single-family detached homes in downtown Alpharetta instead of 12 condominiums as previously planned, according to documents filed with the city.

If approved, the subdivision will be located on a 1.2-acre site at 51-61 Thompson St., just east of the roundabout with Haynes Bridge Road and adjacent to the Thompson Street Flats, which was to have been the first of two 12-unit condominium developments Kairos planned to build.

In the filing asking the Alpharetta City Council to approve a change to the current zoning, which allows 12 multifamily condominiums, Kairos said “the neighboring public has expressed what they would like to see on Thompson Street, which is single family detached homes that are walkable to downtown.”

The City Council will consider the request at its April 26 meeting.
