Beliria Sims is a Realtor with Brown Meyers Brokers in Atlanta

What was your first job in the realty industry? My very first job in the realty industry was that of a real estate agent.

Where did you grow up? I grew up in Detroit.

Growing up, what did you want to be? I wanted to be a lot of different things growing up. I remember the first thing I wanted to be was a mommy. Then, I wanted to be a pediatrician. Then a singer/actress/model. Next, a lawyer, and after that a child psychologist. Before I figured out that I didn’t know what I wanted to be I wanted to be a radio personality. I just knew that whatever I did, I wanted to be of service to people.

What do you do to relax when you’re stressed? I do different things to relieve stress. Sometimes I meditate in a hot bath with candles. SometimesI’ll go to see a movie. Other times, I’ll take a nap… if time allows.

If you could have lunch with a well-known figure (living or not), who would it be and why? I would have lunch with Dr. Maya Angelou. She was a well of wisdom, and I’d love to sit at her feet and absorb it all. I also think she possessed level of fearlessness and self love the is essential to a successful life, and that’s the type of energy I love to be in.

Where is your favorite place to hang out? A beach. Any coastal beach.

What do you love most about the industry? What I love most about this industry, besides the joy people feel when purchasing a home, is the limitlessness of one’s success. It’s your own business built, shaped and molded by you. And who doesn’t want to be their own boss?

How do you distinguish yourself from the crowd of agents? I don’t think that’s anything that I have to do. Being who I am is distinguishable enough, so in just that I am set set apart from the crowd of agents. Don’t get me wrong, while I understand that there’s a need to stand out, I believe I am outstanding enough without having to do anything or be anything extra.

What is the most difficult aspect of your job? The most difficult thing thus far has been processing so much information and carving out my groove, if you will, in my first year.

Where do you go to network and meet new clients? There isn’t one place I go to network or meet new clients. While there are weekly outings with my amazing broker, I see any place I am as an opportunity to network and meet potential clients. It doesn’t matter if I’m at church, the post office or the park.

What has been your greatest accomplishment? Seeing as how I’m still in my first year, and I’m a new Realtor, my greatest accomplishment would be obtaining my license and setting up my business during an extremely difficult time in my life.

What was the last good movie you saw or book you read? The last good book I read was “Nothing Bad Happens Ever” by Joan Fountain.

What is your favorite restaurant? I don’t have a lot of favorite things, restaurants included. However, I do enjoy Seasons 52, Nuevo Laredo Cantina and Ted’s Montana Grill.

Architecturally speaking, what is your favorite building in Atlanta? Again, I wouldn’t say it’s my favorite architecture, but the building that catches my eye is the Bank of America Plaza.

What kind of car do you drive? I drive a Nissan Altima.

Smartphone or paper? Smartphone.

What is your favorite city after Atlanta? Other than Atlanta, I love New York City.

In 10 words or less, what is your advice for someone new to the industry? Learn everything, and find a mentor who believes in you.

What’s your favorite real estate iPhone/Android app? GoFMLS. It gives so much property information on the spot.

Who are your favorite people to follow on Twitter? My favorite people to follow are comedians and inspirational people.
