Thom Abbott is an associate broker with Thomas Ramon Realty of PalmerHouse Properties in Midtown Atlanta

What was your first job in the realty industry? Buyer/Sellers Agent at MetroBrokers – then GMAC.

Where did you grow up? Livingston, Montana

Growing up, what did you want to be? Architect

What do you do to relax when you’re stressed? Enjoy a glass of wine at Serenity Pond, or head to a secret place in the North Carolina mountains

If you could have lunch with a well-known figure (living or not), who would it be and why? Conrad Hilton — a successful business man and I first got my degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management.

Where is your favorite place to hang out? Midtown Atlanta

What do you love most about the industry? The look on a Buyer’s face when you find “just the right one” and again when the keys are handed to them on closing day!

How do you distinguish yourself from the crowd of agents? I don’t work all over the city of Atlanta. I refer business out to agents in areas I’m not familiar with. You’d be amazed at how many of those referred clients come BACK to me when they want to live in Midtown. They appreciate I did not try to go where I do not know.

What is the most difficult aspect of your job? Shutting down. It’s so easy to be in the office at 10pm or 6am writing the next blog post or searching for the right condo for my clients.

Where do you go to network and meet new clients? All over. But also serve on a Board as well as the membership committee of another group, so it’s a great way to meet new people.

What has been your greatest accomplishment? MyMidtownMojo.com. It’s one of the most comprehensive websites I’ve ever seen about one part of Atlanta…Midtown.

What was the last good movie you saw or book you read? “Take The Stairs” by Rory Vaden

What is your favorite restaurant? Mi Cocina in Midtown

Architecturally speaking, what is your favorite building in Atlanta? Sovereign in Buckhead for modern construction. A building that stands out from all the square glass we seem stuck to build.

What kind of car do you drive? Ford F-150

Smartphone or paper? Smartphone. By the end of 2015, there will hardly be a file in my office.

What is your favorite city after Atlanta? Miami

In 10 words or less, what is your advice for someone new to the industry? Be prepared to work your a@@ off, and it may take more than a year.

What’s your favorite real estate iPhone/Android app? Facebook

Who are your favorite people to follow on Twitter? Chris Smith
