Tanya Ess-Young

What was your first job in the realty industry? My first position in the real estate industry was with Assist-2-Sell. I found out about the company, because they were listing the home that me and my husband ended up purchasing and I found their level of expertise and professionalism throughout the process refreshing from what I had stereotyped real estate agencies to be.

Where did you grow up? I grew up in New York, proud resident of the Empire State.

Growing up, what did you want to be? Growing up I wanted to a be a lawyer, because I was a legal secretary for almost 15 years and I found enjoyment in the legal system.

What do you do to relax when you’re stressed? Run and lift weights; physical fitness has been my new mission in life.

If you could have lunch with a well-known figure (living or not), who would it be and why? Oprah; I believe that she has a good work ethnic and would learn to love more about how she operates her business.

Where is your favorite place to hang out? Sad to say, but it would probably be the gym or on the Silver Comet Trail.

What do you love most about the industry? Meeting new people, fighting for my clients, and being able to give back to my community.

How do you distinguish yourself from the crowd of agents? I treat my business as more of a ministry. I feel that I have more of a passion when it comes to interacting with those who are also in the business; from my clients, to other agents, to lenders, etc.

What is the most difficult aspect of your job? Sometimes you come across some personalities that you would rather not deal with if you had the choice, but you have to face it head on and remember that at the end of the day, you are working to make a change in someones life. I would also say that the second most difficult aspect is when I am unable to help people, because there is nothing available in their price range.

Where do you go to network and meet new clients? I am a member of Cobb Association of Realtors, Women’s Council of Realtors, and Empire Board of Realtors. I constantly take online webinars, but IRL (in real life as my children always remind me), I take time to stay in touch with my past clients and close friends and family to grow my sphere of influence and grow my clientele.

What has been your greatest accomplishment? Definitely my children; they are bright, opinionated, and strong: Call me proud mommy.

What was the last good movie you saw or book you read? A Blessed Life by Robert Morris

What is your favorite restaurant? Taj Mahal Grill

Architecturally speaking, what is your favorite building in Atlanta? Atlanta? Now that is tricky being from New York. I would have to say the Capital Building; I love that you can see it from the highway.

What kind of car do you drive? My dream car: Mercedes Jeep

Smartphone or paper? Smartphone

What is your favorite city after Atlanta? New York City, but of course.

In 10 words or less, what is your advice for someone new to the industry? Treat others like you want to be treated.

What’s your favorite real estate iPhone/Android app? Camcard

Who are your favorite people to follow on Twitter? You would have to ask my assistant, he manages my twitter account, lol.
