denise-stamps-auston

Denise Stamps-Auston is a Realtor with Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices in Marietta

What was your first job in the realty industry? I was a licensed real estate assistant.

Where did you grow up? All over the world. I moved every three years of my life until I was 18, first a child whose father served in the military, then with my husband at 24, who also served in the military for 20 years. I was even born on a military base Davis-Monthan AFB Tucson, AZ. My father retired in Northern California, and I considered that home until my husband retired here in Georgia.

Growing up, what did you want to be? A pediatrician.

What do you do to relax when you’re stressed? I like yoga, and I meditate by reading the Bible.

If you could have lunch with a well-known figure (living or not), who would it be and why? Gandhi or Mother Teresa. They just got it. They truly lived a life that reflected the very change that they desired to see in the world. They believed in unconditional love for one another.

Where is your favorite place to hang out? The park.

What do you love most about the industry? The joy of meeting new people and helping them find the most important place in the world for a person, their home. I love it!

How do you distinguish yourself from the crowd of agents? I’m a great listener, and I’m culturally sensitive to others. This is a direct result of having traveled to and lived in a variety of counties, as well as in the U.S., as a military child dependent and as a military wife.

What is the most difficult aspect of your job? Overcoming challenges that are fear based for clients.

Where do you go to network and meet new clients? Sorority and fraternity events, happy hour, first Friday events, grocery stores and restaurants. I try to take advantage of every place I go to network and meet new clients.

What has been your greatest accomplishment? Being a military wife and primarily raising two children alone while owning my own business. Both my children are now successful, college-educated adults who chose careers that give back. My daughter is a registered nurse at Piedmont, and my son is a fifth-generation military man who is 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Reserve.

What was the last good movie you saw or book you read? Movie: “Gone Girl.” Book: The Bible.

What is your favorite restaurant? I love the fact in Atlanta there’s so many places to choose from, especially because I consider myself a foodie. However, my fav spot is Canoe!

Architecturally speaking, what is your favorite building in Atlanta? King & Queen Buildings in Perimeter

What kind of car do you drive? For work, my Acura MDX SUV; for play, my 645 BMW.

Smartphone or paper? Smartphone. Although paper doesn’t crash or break when you drop it.

What is your favorite city after Atlanta? San Francisco.

In 10 words or less, what is your advice for someone new to the industry? Find your niche, and perfect your skills in that!

What’s your favorite real estate iPhone/Android app? Matrix Mobile

Who are your favorite people to follow on Twitter? Hillary Clinton and Oprah Winfrey
