Laura Thompson, Realtor, The Thompson Team

Harry Norman, Realtors

Laura Thompson is one-third of The Thompson Team, a high-powered real estate team that ranked No. 1 among small teams in the Harry Norman Buckhead Chastain office and No. 12 among small teams company-wide in 2014. Thompson attributes her success to not only being a fourth generation Atlantan with expert knowledge of the city and its suburbs, but also to her business background. This winning combination, she says, “allows me to see the big picture and help clients through the multiple layers of buying or selling a home.”

Thompson pursued a career in investment banking after earning a degree in finance at the College of William & Mary and before attending the University of Georgia for her MBA. Her mother, Elsie, a Harry Norman Realtor since Thompson’s childhood, mentored her when she entered the industry in 2006 and taught her about customer service, organization and negotiation. “I know a lot of new agents wish they could have such a fantastic mentor!” she says. She decided to become a full-time agent two years later, largely motivated by the fact that there is never a dull moment in real estate. Thompson loves that the profession affords her the opportunity to be an entrepreneur who can forge her own path. “Every client and every property is different,” she says.

Thompson’s business philosophy combines transparent communication with professional patience, and she dedicates equal time and attention to every client. “I treat a $90,000 listing the same as I would a $2 million listing, making certain that I showcase both with professional photography and professional marketing materials,” she says. She and her mother recently added Rachel Grindrod to their team to help meet the needs of their buyers and sellers, 90 percent of whom are referral-based. With a team approach, The Thompson Team is best able to make themselves available to clients whenever they are needed. Having more professionals on the team allows them to focus on the detailed work they are known for, such as proprietary checklists that help prevent lapses at any point in a client’s transaction.

A member of the Atlanta Board of Realtors Multi-Million Dollar Sales Club, Thompson enjoys spending time with her family, as well as hiking, camping and tennis during her off hours. At work, she finds great personal fulfillment in knowing that she is able to provide her clients with reassurance and peace of mind. “Above everything else, I always put my clients’ best interests first, and they appreciate my honesty and integrity. After all,” she adds, “we do not have a product to sell – only our time and our expertise – so customer service is and will always be of the utmost importance.”
